Museum of Sounds

I grew up hearing all the jazz legends at the Black Hawk in San Francisco.  We used to go there when we were in high school.  The jazz form we heard had a lifelong influence on me.

Somehow, after art school, painting on my own, something was triggered – I started painting musicians.  This was 1986.  Since then there have been years when I moved away from the musicians:  there were periods of  ‘abstract’ painting, and then my ‘Tectonic Plates’ Series.

But I always found myself returning to jazz and its sound.  The ‘Ornette Series’ is my latest group of paintings, inspired by the extraordinary musician and composer Ornette Coleman.
